With the festive period looming it's inevitable that many of us will put down the weights and pick up the wine. And there's no harm in that! But how do we make sure we have the motivation to put our grippy socks back on and embrace the shake?
Head of Retail and Instructor, Lotty, has given us her top tips on getting back to the barre.
If I book into class in advance, I find I am much more likely to actually attend. If it's booked, it feels like more of a priority whereas if you haven't booked and a better offer (such as a tempting after work drink) comes along, you're likely to ditch the barre and head to the other kind of bar. I take time on a Sunday to plan what classes I can fit in to my schedule the following week and once it’s in the diary, there is no excuse. The Barrecore app is a quick and easy way to book on the go if you don't have time to sit down and make a weekly schedule.
Working out with a friend or a whole group of friends is such a great motivation. You have someone to laugh through the ‘shake’ with and share your progress and it adds that bit of healthy competition. Also, if you've agreed to go to class with other people, you're less likely to bail as, not only will you be letting yourself down, but your friends too.
Sometimes you need that extra kick to go to class, and what better way than buying yourself some new activewear to make yourself feel fabulous. Make sure to lay out your activewear the night before or pack it in your bag - that way, you’ll feel too invested to change your mind and 'forgetting your shower stuff' won't be an excuse.
Maybe it’s once a week, maybe it’s everyday, but set yourself a challenge for the month based on how often you're going to hit the barre. There's no need to go over the top because you'll be setting yourself up for disappointment. Also, workout which routine works best for you, if you're not a morning person, that's not a problem, don't force yourself to be. Instead, do you workout at lunch or in the evening. The most important thing is that you set realistic goals and which you're able to achieve.
