FAQs

+What is barrecore?

barrecore is a one-hour series of movements designed to stretch every muscle group in the body. Using a ballet barre, your own body weight and isometric exercises, your muscles quickly transform, becoming longer, stronger, leaner and more flexible.

+What do I need to bring with me?

Socks are required. We sell nonslip socks at the studio. You should also bring a bottle of water for hydration and wear comfortable workout clothing that allows for a variety of movements.

+What do I do in a barrecore class?

We begin with a warm-up and 10 minutes of upper body, followed by 25 minutes of leg and seat exercises, 20 minutes of core conditioning and ending with a 5-minute relaxation.

+What equipment or props do I use?

You use your own body weight as resistance, along with a playground ball, karate belt, stretch bands, light weights, mats and cushions. Don’t worry, we provide it all for you!

+Will barrecore help me lose weight?

Most clients lose inches in just 8 to 10 sessions. The more frequently you attend, the faster you see results. Because we use a program of resistance exercises, you will build lean muscles. The more muscle you have (instead of fat), the more calories you will burn all day, unlike other forms of exercise that only burn calories while you are doing the activity. If you maintain a healthy diet, you will become slimmer. Additionally, if you would like more direction with your nutrition, barrecore offers bespoke, nutritional counseling, to help you achieve the best possible results.Exercise will help you accomplish more than just weight loss. Exercise has been proven to reduce heart disease, diabetes and depression. Studies also show that regular exercise promotes life expectancy and cognitive function.

+How often should I take barrecore classes?

Four times per week is the magic number for quick results. However, you will still see results in as little as two sessions per week. Most of our clients see a difference in just 8 to 10 sessions. We invite you to try our barrecore 6-week challenge, committing to 4 times per week for 6 consecutive weeks. Students experiencing soreness are also encouraged to attend class often, even on consecutive days, as it helps oxygenate the muscles and reduce tightness.

+Will I be sore?

Muscle tightness is common when beginning a new workout regimen, especially because you work your muscles in a new and different way than most other exercises. At barrecore you will be sore in all the right places. Because of the variations you will always be challenged, but never plateau. Most students have some muscle soreness after class. Sore muscles will be stretched in each class, relieving tension and creating the elongated, dancer physique.

+Does barrecore shape the body?

Yes! Muscles are worked to exhaustion and then stretched to elongate that same muscle group. This combination causes muscles to rapidly change shape, resulting in the highly coveted “barre body.”

+Is barrecore cardiovascular?

Yes, barrecore cardiovascular from of low-impact, interval training perspective. We increase the heart rate by alternating between intense intervals and slow recovery periods, such as stretching.

+How are the benefits of barrecore different from yoga, Pilates and other types of exercise?

We take many exercises from yoga and Pilates and even some free weight exercises from classic weight training (although we tend to use much lighter weight and higher repetition). As a beginner in other forms of exercise, most see results fairly quickly – but after 6 weeks they no longer see beneficial changes in their bodies. Through barrecore classes and private training you are continually challenged to increase your strength with the many tough and safe variations, so you will never plateau. Flexibility is one of the main reasons results are achieved so quickly at barrecore so you will definitely feel more limber. As the exercises use mostly your own body weight, you will build bone density without creating bulk and without straining the spine and other joints, which is one of the hazards of traditional weight-lifting machines. All in all, our system offers a greater variety of exercises to target the entire body and mind.

+What are the benefits barrecore for men?

The barrecore method will help you create a solid body using your own body weight and some lighter weights. You will notice a more balanced-looking physique as muscles are pulled closer to the bone as we work the body from the inside out, unlike classic weight machines that use a lever working from the outside in. This is no sissy workout, gentlemen. The series of exercises will work your entire body, will make you sweat, help you build lean muscle and will not result in the “meathead” body type. This workout will help you correct your cortisol response (no spare-tyre!) and help your body release testosterone, which is extremely healthy for men.

+What is so important about elongated, flexible muscles?

In addition to helping you look great, supple and flexible muscles decrease your risk of injury and lower back pain and improve your posture. Flexible, long muscles are actually stronger than tight muscles.

+Why is it important to stretch and strengthen the back?

Most people today experience some type of back pain from time to time from sitting all day, traveling and life in general. By strengthening the core and the muscles around the back as well as keeping your hips and legs strong and flexible, you decrease your risk of injury and reduce or eliminate pain altogether.

+Why does barrecore use a ballet barre?

The ballet barre allows you the balance to perform upright, weight-bearing movements, to build resistance and strength unlike any other tool and achieve faster results than other forms of exercise.

+Can I take class if I am pregnant?

Moderate exercise during pregnancy usually helps women not only feel healthy and fit but can make labour easier and recovery much faster. If you have no serious medical conditions and you do not have a complicated pregnancy, then yes, you can take part in barrecore. We just ask that if you bring a note from your doctor giving you the go-ahead to exercise. Most of the exercises are focused on the pelvic floor creating more stability and comfort as your baby grows. Many post-natal barre clients tout the quick “bounce back” strictly to barrecore workouts!

+Can I come to class if I am injured?

Yes, this method is focused on stretches and strengthening in a safe way using minimal props that may even help rehabilitate your issues. If you do have an injury we recommend you consult your physician before trying any new exercise. Also, make sure to tell the instructor before class begins so they can give you special modifications if or when you need them.
